All legacy ATI Radeon GPUs before the ATI Radeon HD 5000 series, as official driver support for those legacy GPUs were dropped by AMD. The AMD Catalyst 9.3 display driver can be installed on Linux to support the ATI Radeon 9500 Series through ATI Radeon X1900/X2100 Series. AMD has now made available the first WHQL-certified graphics drivers of 2012, the Catalyst 12.1. This release includes support for Radeon HD 2000, HD 3000, HD 4000, HD 5000 and HD 6000 series desktops (and mobile) cards (but not the HD 7970), for Radeon 3000 and HD 4000 chipsets, and features the fo. After grub the screen goes black, the operating system does not start. I can start by adding 'nomodeset' in grub, with a low resolution.In this same forum I have seen a solution that does not work for me:- Code: Select all

Amd Radeon 5000 Series
When building a new system or buying hardware for a computer that is specifically intended to run FlightGear, it seems like a good idea to avoid these cards and instead check out Hardware Recommendations or more specifically Supported Video Cards.
You might still be able to run FlightGear despite having a problematic video card/chip, but you will not be able to use certain features and/or decrease overall details. See Troubleshooting performance issues for a list of possible fixes and workarounds.

This is for models from ATI/AMD.
Linux
- All legacy ATI Radeon GPUs before the ATI Radeon HD 5000 series, as official driver support for those legacy GPUs were dropped by AMD.
- The AMD Catalyst 9.3 display driver can be installed on Linux to support the ATI Radeon 9500 Series through ATI Radeon X1900/X2100 Series.
- The AMD Catalyst 13.1 display driver can be installed on Linux to support the AMD Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000 related video cards or notebook GPUs. [1]
However the free radeon drivers are feature complete for these hardware generations and perform quite well.
Windows
- AMD has dropped support for cards older than the HD5000 series. The last AMD Catalyst display driver available for these cards can, however, be used without problems on Windows.
Suggestions for a AMD Radeon R7-M260 if you struggle with FPS, Make sure your shaders are set low / off (Except water) and you might get a few more FPS, Also download and install Game fire at: https://www.smartpcutilities.com/gamefire.html This will turn off a lot of stuff within Windows and free up much needed RAM BE CAREFUL what you turn off though, as this can lead to some side effects you may not want, check internet on the process first before switching it off! This should help get a few more FPS, Also in task manager right click F/G scroll down to 'Go to details' then 'set priority' and select 'realtime' and accept when the warning box comes up, this may help you. Doing these should help your FPS a little. Also the 'Crimson' drivers from AMD can cause quite bad FPS and major FPS variances sticking with the older 'Catalyst' drivers, it is more stable. Hope this helps some of you. PLEASE NOTE the settings quoted here help me, THEY might not help you! Please also note when updating your software FOLLOW instructions given on the AMD website when it comes to uninstalling old software Otherwise this will also cause a loss in FPS as the old software will fight the new software
Intel GMA
The following Intel GMA integrated graphic processors (IGPs) are insufficient to support the advanced OpenGL 2.1+ features (i.e. shaders, etc.) in FlightGear 2.10 and higher. See this forum post and for owners of HD 3000 and 4000 also this one.
