How To Set Up A Slideshow At Weebly

A Successful Slideshow Is More Than Just Photos.

By Eileen Brown, Web Developer.
Presentation IS Important. Just as important than the photos themselves; how they are presented can bring more views, and more importantly, search engine recognition.
FIRST - The photos themselves. If you do not know how to 'optimize' photos take these few tips to enhance the photos and make the page on which your slideshow resides load faster.
  1. Make the photos circumference (outside dimensions) fit the space where you will place your slideshow. All photos should be the same size whenever possible.
  2. IF you do not have software to 'resize' get a free one like Paint.net. I use Paint.net so know it's a great piece of software. Very versatile and easy to use. Download Paint.net from the getpaint.net website.

You can also brighten and change contrast of the photos utilizing the Paint.net software.

NOW the photos are ready to build a slideshow at Weebly. ;)
3. Once your photos are the same size you'll still need to optimize them another step. Once you get to know paint.net you can optimize them fairly well for 'weight' in pixels but there is another option for a quick fix on this item. AND it will save even further in pixel weight.

GO to Tinypng.comand upload each photo and watch how much in pixels you can save. THIS action will make your photos ready to add to a slideshow and not slow down the load time of the page.
For photos and graphics use the .jpg or .png format. Save the photo in each format and see which one is smaller after using the Tinypng tool. Very Cool. ;)
UPDATE Notes 06-01-18 - Compression tools ---
Reader, Paola Mesber has suggested another compression tool online.
'Hello there , I was using the picture compressor tool you mentioned on your page here:
webdevelopmentbuddy.com/articles/how-to-set-up-a-slideshow-at-weebly
While tinypng.com does a good job, it only allows you to compress pictures that are up to 20 MB. After some exploring I found this other tool and I wanted to suggest you show it along with tha tone:
https://www.websiteplanet.com/webtools/imagecompressor/
This tools allows you to compress pictures that are up to 50 MB in size both in jpeg and in png format!'
I hope I helped back, Paola

Uploading the photos.

This process is easy and intuitive . However, some folks do need a step by step to help get through the process the first time or two. So let's get to it ---
Start with 'Drag and Drop' ---
Slideshow (above) Directions ---
  • Hover over the slideshow and the control buttons will appear at the top.
  • Use the 'Pause' button (top left of slideshow) to view a slide longer.
  • Use the 'Numbers' at the bottom to review a slideshow page at will.

The Slideshow Tools for your users at your blog/site.

Make it as easy as possible for people visiting the website to be able to use the slideshow to their own advantage. Follow the instructions and the advice in the Weebly slideshow below, created just for my audience, and you'll be all set ---
Use the code, noted in the image in blue to make a
'Line break' which is the same as a 'carriage return.'
FINAL STEP ---
Publish your web page or blog entry. NOW, go read it through and be thorough.
While proofing your work ---
  • Do all the links work? Click them and make sure they open in a new window.
  • Do all the images have caption text? Very important, not just for users but also for search engine indexing too.
  • Is the slideshow easy to use? Will people figure out how to use it, intuitively.
  • White Space - plenty of room around the slideshow?
  • THINK while you proofread - otherwise your page/post will not look professional to your visitors.

FINAL NOTE ---
You can also right click any of the photos in the slideshows and save them. But if you share them, be sure to give credit to Buddy Web Services! A link to this post would be great. Thanks. ;)

  • STEP #2: Log in to your Weebly and go to your home page. Select the 'Build' tab at the top of the page. STEP #3: Click and drag the tool labelled 'Slideshow' (found on the left-hand side of the Weebly screen) to your home page. (An example of what a slideshow will look like is below.
  • I’ve been trying to get decent image quality for a Weebly slideshow. These are very good quality images and they appeared great on my old website but on Weebly they look bad. I’m blaming my ignorance on this, but if Weebly (I have pro) strips down images just let me know. I’ve tried large (2000-3000 pixels across) images at 150dpi.
